About Melasyl
Melasyl Skin Tech Lab is an independent research initiative founded by Wei, a cosmetic formulation analyst with deep expertise in skin biology, active ingredient chemistry, and AI-augmented research methods.
Our mission is to decode the science behind commercial skincare products — to understand why formulas work, why they fail, and how emerging technologies like large language models can accelerate the discovery of better, safer, more effective formulations.
Why We Exist
Commercial skincare marketing is filled with vague claims: “advanced formula,” “clinically proven,” “dermatologist-tested.” But the actual science behind these products is rarely explained in accessible, honest terms.
Melasyl exists to fill that gap. We analyze commercial products through the lens of a formulation chemist, cross-reference ingredient claims with published research, and use AI tools to simulate how different active compounds interact at the molecular level.
Our Approach
We combine three disciplines:
- Cosmetic Formulation Science — understanding emulsions, delivery systems, preservation, and the chemistry of active ingredients
- Skin Biology — how actives penetrate the stratum corneum, trigger biochemical pathways, and produce measurable skin changes
- AI-Augmented Research — using large language models to accelerate literature review, cross-reference patents, and simulate ingredient synergies
About Wei
Wei has spent years studying cosmetic chemistry, regulatory frameworks (EU, US, China, ASEAN), and the business of skincare formulation across Asian and Western markets. The Melasyl project grew out of frustration with the gap between how products are marketed and what the science actually says.
